Danube Interreg Programme
Last modified: 18. September 2024
The Danube Transnational Programme is the funding instrument of the European Territorial Cooperation (ETC), better known as Interreg. The ETC is one of the objectives of the European Union's cohesion policy and provides a framework for the implementation of joint actions and policy exchanges between national, regional and local actors from different Member States.
The Danube Transnational Programme (DTP) promotes economic, social and territorial cohesion in the Danube Region through policy integration in selected areas.
In order to achieve a higher degree of territorial integration in the highly heterogeneous Danube Region, the transnational cooperation programme will act as a policy driver and pioneer to address common challenges and needs in specific policy areas where transnational cooperation is expected to deliver tangible results.
Given its geographical coverage, this highly complex programme provides a policy dimension to transnational cooperation that is unique in Europe and successfully addresses challenges such as ensuring contracting mechanisms for partners receiving funding from different EU instruments.
The Danube Transnational Programme funds projects to develop and implement policy frameworks, tools and services, as well as concrete small-scale pilot investments. We will seek strong complementarity with the wider EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).

Second call for proposal opening soon!
We are pleased to announce that the Danube Region Programme (DRP) is set to open its second call for proposals on 2nd October 2023. This call presents an excellent opportunity for potential applicants to submit their projects and contribute to the development and cooperation in the Danube Region. The submission deadline for proposals is 29th February 2024.
Priorities and objectives 2021-2027
The Danube macro-region is a region of constraints due to its highly fragmented status in political, socio-economic and administrative terms. Compared to other macro-regions, it has the largest number of countries - and the largest number of border regions.
At the same time, European measures for stronger cohesion, as well as accession and neighbourhood policies, are creating a new and unique historical context for better integration of the Danube region.
The new Danube Region Programme will address these challenges and opportunities through transnational cooperation along 4 priorities.
- A smarter Danube region Priority I.
- A greener, low-carbon Danube region Priority II.
- A more social Danube region Priority III.
- A better cooperation governance Priority IV.
