Data management plan requirement under Horizon Europe

Data Management Plan requirement under Horizon Europe

Last modified: 25. September 2024

Horizon Europe attaches great importance to the management of research data and data management plans (DMPs) are mandatory. If you expect to create or reuse data and/or other research results (excluding publications), you should describe in no more than one page how you will manage them. Further details on this can be found in the relevant section on Open Science in the application template.

A full DMP is not required at the submission stage. Exceptionally, and where required by the work programme, a full DMP must be submitted at the time of submission of the application or at the latest at the time of signature of the grant agreement.

During the first six months of the project period, approved projects must submit the first version of the data management plan as a deliverable. The European Commission provides the templates, models and support described below, the use of which is recommended. The DMP should be updated throughout the project if significant changes occur, such as: new data, changes in the consortium guidelines (e.g. new innovation potential, decision to file a patent application) or changes in the composition of the consortium (e.g. new consortium members joining or old members leaving). In addition, the DMP should be updated in conjunction with any regular project evaluation.

The current Programme Guide includes a Horizon Europe DMP template (as of 5 May 2021). The use of this template is recommended, but not mandatory.
